Does this actually work in court?
ClearStand doesn't appear in court — you do. What it does is prepare you: organize your disclosure, draft your forms, identify inconsistencies, cite Canadian caselaw, and make sure you walk in knowing your case cold. Canadian courts have been clear they will not tolerate AI-generated nonsense; our tools are built specifically to avoid that. We'll publish case outcomes as users share them.
How is this different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a general assistant. It hallucinates Canadian caselaw — courts have already sanctioned self-represented litigants for submitting fake citations generated by it. ClearStand is purpose-built for Canadian law, with jurisdiction-specific form builders, disclosure analysis trained on Canadian criminal procedure, and verified caselaw citations (with a CanLII integration in progress).
Is there really a free plan?
Yes — no credit card required. 10 chat messages and 1 document analysis. Genuinely enough to see what ClearStand does before you decide. If you're facing a real court date, Complete or Counsel will serve you better — that's where the cross-examination builder, affidavit interview builder, and voice dictation live.
What's the difference between standalone and bundle?
Standalone covers one product — Family Law or Criminal Defence. Bundle covers both at a lower combined rate. If you're facing both (more common than people realize), bundle saves up to $39/month.
Can I upgrade or downgrade anytime?
Yes. Upgrades apply immediately with prorated billing — you're credited for unused days on your current plan. Downgrades take effect at the end of your billing period; you keep full access until then.
Is ClearStand a replacement for a lawyer?
No, and we don't pretend to be. ClearStand is a preparation tool. For complex or high-stakes matters — anything involving children, potential jail time, or significant assets — consult a lawyer. We help you arrive prepared, organized, and not overpaying when you do.
What's the ClearSplit subscriber discount?
Active ClearStand subscribers on any paid plan get ClearSplit for $249 instead of $299 — applied automatically at checkout.
What if I cancel?
You keep full access until the end of your billing period. After that your account moves to the free tier. Your data is never deleted — if you come back, everything is where you left it.
What about payment security?
All payments process through Stripe — the same infrastructure most Canadian SaaS companies use. ClearStand never sees or stores your card details.
Who built this?
A retired Canadian law enforcement professional (25 years, federal/provincial/municipal) who spent a decade self-represented in family court. ClearStand exists because the tools that should have been available during those years weren't — so we built them. Read more in About.
